The .gal domain was born in the middle of 2014, promoted by the Asociación PuntoGal, dedicated to promote the Galician language and its culture in Internet, similar to the .cat and .eus domains.
Launched to the general public on December 2, 2014, it has approximately 6.500 registered domains.
It is important to remember that .gal domain holders have certain requirements to fulfill, specifically, the website must contain a minimum significant content in Galician language, although it is also shown in other languages. In case it does not show content in Galician, it must be content related to Galician culture or online services specifically aimed at the Galician community and which favour its development.
